Some Pictures and Explanations

Well, first off, I've been taking pictures around campus. This first one is just random.

Picture number two was this huge pile of snow with a face carved in it on campus (in Brigham Square). A guy was standing on it the first time I walked by.

These next three were taken on my walk home from campus last week, the sunset and the snow was amazing. There isn't too much snow left though.

The last photo is an activity we did for fhe on Monday. We were in groups and each group was supposed to make a character from the Bible or Book of Mormon (Couldn't be Jesus) using an egg and playdough. Ours was Amalikiah.

Sundance in the Snow

Brent and I went to try to find a place to go sledding this weekend up in the canyon, but didn't have much luck. They wouldn't let us go in Sundance because it is "too dangerous" Probably because of them danged skiiers. Oh well, it was definitely an adventure, and the mountains and view was amazing up there in the snow. I've never actually been up there when it is completely covered with snow. It's awesome. we also found an abandoned amphitheater and went and played around in it for a few in the snow. It was so nice to get outside and believe it or not it was in the upper forties, which was so nice! I also found out my best friends Erin and Tia are coming to visit me on their spring break in March, so I'm super excited about that as well. Sorry I always post my life in pictures, I've realized that pictures really do tell a thousand words, and that they usually do so much better than I ever could. It's also become kind of a passion for me, even though I don't have much skill with it yet. Oh well, I'm working on it.
P.S. it was extremely hard to capture the actual beauty of it. I would say Narnia is
the closest thing I can think of.

Snowed In

For those of you in Snow country this may not seem like a lot of snow, but for those of us in Southern Indiana it is. Mother Nature generously left her mark here and in many other place this week. Most places have it worse than we do.

The snow is beautiful. It is on the trees, too. The pine trees are pretty droopy but very pretty. It has kept Jeff very busy at work breaking two inches of ice off of the carrier vans, shoveling snow and spreading salt on the sidewalks and parking lots. Jo has been at home all week with occasional trips outdoors to enjoy the beauty of it all and do a little snow cleaning around here.

The flowers are for Jo's birthday. Aren't they pretty? Thanks, Heidi.

The Key to Perfection

The Key to Perfection has been a work in progress for about a year now. It's a book I have been working on. Up until quite recently I have been working on ideas and on a solid detailed outline of sorts. Now, I have written the first chapter and have posted it on the new blog I created. thekeytoperfection.blogspot.com. As I write I will post the new chapters. Here is a preview:

“What did Will do? He seems like he’s too lost in his Calculus book to cross Jess,” Anna asked.

Both Jake and Cam grinned at her question. Jake was the one who spoke first, “This is a good story.”

“Her parents tried to convince the school board that the teachers were simply giving Will his straight A’s because he’s a really good athlete and that in reality Jess should be Valedictorian. The school board told them that no such thing was going on. So then her parents had the gall to accuse the school board its self of favoring athletics over the music program. Most of the school board members played instruments in high school too.”

Anna was surprised that anyone’s parents could be so protective of their child. She was really getting into the story. “So, what did the school board do?”

Jake cut in, “They should have put a restraining order on them.”

“They pulled up Will’s record of accomplishments and told them that Will was basically perfect.” Cam’s enjoyment in telling the story seemed to disappear at this new development.

Jake’s happy demeanor also fell, “Will had a B in Calculus and won’t quit studying now. He’s under a lot of pressure.”

It was hard for Anna to concentrate in class after Cam and Jake’s story. Even as she sat at her desk in her Chemistry class she could not stop thinking about what Jess’s parents had done and how it had put more pressure on Will. It wouldn’t have bothered her so much if she had had anything else to think about. Her Chemistry class in Denver was about a week ahead of her new class and so she kept thinking about it. Also, Jess sitting directly in front of her in chemistry made it even harder to think about any thing else. He found herself staring at the back of Jess’s head too often.

Mr. and Mrs. David Fox

One of my best friends from High School got married this weekend. Her wedding was beautiful and it was nice to have all our friends back together again, even if it was for only a few hours. Our family also went to Indianapolis this weekend to visit mom's side for Christmas. It was so good to see everyone. We are planning on heading to Maryland on Wednesday morning unless it is snowing or there are snow issues in Maryland already. It will definitely be a busy break.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like CHRISTMAS!

So, every Christmas season in Salt Lake City for the past 30 some years there has been a festival of trees. Basically families and businesses buy and decorate ( or make as in the case below from a glass blowing company in Sundance) Christmas trees however they want to and then donate them to the festival. After they have been donated (by a certain date) they put all of the trees in a convention center and the public is allowed to come in a purchase the already decorated trees. All of the proceeds from the event go to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City as a "Christmas Present." I think they received over a million last year. The original festival started out with only about 30 trees and this year there were over 600. They have small and big ones, wreaths, other center pieces and decorations, and my personal favorite were the gingerbread houses. I have never seen such elaborate gingerbread houses, they were phenomenal, for lack of a better word. Brent and I went up and checked them out and were shocked and amazed at the crazy stuff they had going on there. Anyways, I thought you would enjoy some of the pictures, they were crazy! All of the trees were about as elaborate as the ones above, and they had another one made out of wood that had a bunch of "bells and whistles" and had marbles work their way down it, kind of like a toy. They were great. P.s. This is of Dorothy when she Landed in Oz if you can't read the sign, or can't tell from the picture. There were so many awesome ones, I got pictures of a few more, if anyone is interested in seeing them just let know.

I'm still standing in the closet

This was a learning experience for Jeff and Jo. We had fun mixed in with a little work and a day of computing discovery. I thought everyone might want to see a little of what we were doing while the kids are at college. They have waited patiently for this movie so we published it without anyone seeing it first. The closet is finished and the shelves and the "laundry shoot" work great. Cool huh!

Thanksgiving Break

Hey friends, and family. My family (aka Mom and Dad) came out to Utah to visit Kevin and I for the break in case anyone didn't know. They were here for about a week. It was really nice to have a long break from school and to have the family together for Thanksgiving for the first time in 4 years. We made our own Thanksgiving feast together and went and visited Sundance Ski Resort and Temple Square. It was one of the first nights that the Christmas lights were up, so it was a little bit crowded, but fun. The rest of the week we kind of just hung out, played games, and spent time together. Mom and Kevin did get in a pretty amusing tickle fight though. I can't believe there are only 4 days left of regular classes. It's really exciting, and scary at the same time. I have so many different projects and portfolio's going on right now that it is a little overwhelming. I am currently in the middle of a project on Nestle Crunch bar. We are rebranding them, launching a new candy bar, (fake) and giving them an identity. After all, there is no crunch man! I'm also putting togethere two portfolios of my work for different classes and resumes and stuff for internships for the summer. I actually have another blog with a bunch of old and current class projects on for anyone who is super bored, is interested in advertising, or just wants to see what I'm actually doing. Anyways, Thanks for reading this rambling thing :) Its been fun. I posted some pictures of my family's visit and a link to my other site.
