Fireflies

Our family went to a little town in Illinois called Nauvoo in May. Its an old town that the pioneers lived in. It is very historical for the LDS church. Brent was able to come with us, we had a lot of fun. It was Brent's first time being outside of the western half of the United States (other than Florida) so we had fun showing him the mid-west. He got lucky because the humidity was very low while he was out here except for the few days that it rained. He missed all the intense rain we had earlier in the spring. He also got to experience lightning bugs for the first time. It is definitely something that I never realized I missed until I was back in Indiana for the summer. Its amazing how amusing those things can be. There were only a few here when he was here, but Kevin managed to catch one that was hanging out in the grass. Anyways, I guess I should stop boring you with the details and just show you the pictures.

Kevin's Graduation

Kevin graduated from High School two weeks ago today. He received a $700 scholarship from his school for academics. He was ranked 4th in his class and graduated with a 3.90 or higher and with a High Academic Honors diploma. He also got a pin for completing 4 years of Spanish and he was awarded the super marcher for the 2nd year in a row in band. Dad's side of the family was here for about 2 or 3 days and Mom's came down just for the graduation and party. Brent was here during that time as well. The following are pictures of it.

Home for the Summer

I am finally home for the summer. I drove all the way Friday and Saturday. It feels so good to be done with finals, but a lot of my friends are gone, so it will be an interesting summer. I'm still trying to find a job... :( Here are a few pictures from my drive home. I think they are both taken in Missouri, so don't get too excited, I should have gotten some of the red rocks in Utah and Wyoming that were amazing!

Colors Everywhere

BYU doesn't have spring break, and we only have two days off this entire semester. One of them this year was right after the prophet of our church died, and Brent and I were in Salt Lake so we decided to stop by and see his gravestone, and consequently we found a bunch of others of the old prophets. We also went to a planetarium that had fake moon and fake mars sets... Kinda interesting...That's about it for this semester, during basketball season we went to every home game as a break from studies and a few weekend ago, a nearby Hindu temple had this festival of colors where you throw around colored flour and everyone gets all colored. Kind of interesting, that's what they believe the Gods do to keep themselves happy and occupied.

Spur-of-the-Moment Party

Let me tell you, having a "Spur-of-the-Moment party" with a bunch of crazy friends is pretty awesome. This actually happened last month by the way. If you think these pictures are crazy, you should have seen it WITHOUT the camera. It was crazy. We played this game called the Sound Game. It was crazy awesome. Also, we played this game called Ghetto Land. (Well it was just a really old version of Candy Land). We also played twister and hung out with Pooh as you can see. Oh, who was there. Well, I was there obviously. Alec Garrett and Emma Bowan (scary Pooh picture), Nathan Garrett (the smaller lamp shade), Jacob Bowman (on the treadmill), and Marisa Aguirre. Oh, we also played Ya...which was turned into Oi for a while. That was a blast. Um...I'm trying to remember it all...oh yeah we watched some of the really dumb movies I've made an we ate No Bake cookies that I made. Jacob played Perfection (Anyone remember "POP! Goes Perfection!"?) Um...I think that's about it...but I've never had so much fun in my life...well, maybe not but I think you get the point.

More Catch Up

Hmm.. for Valentine's Day my friends and I went and heart-attacked our bishopric (the three guys that lead our church in our area). We had to drive out to Spanish Fork (about 20 minutes away) to do it, but it was a lot of fun. It was like 11 at night so we were really quiet, but one of the bishop's kids came out of the house as we were trying to drive away. Brent didn't realize the car wasn't on so... we failed miserably while she stood there laughing.. :)

The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree

All right so if we are going little by little then I guess I better start with The Lady Pirates of Captain Bree. That was the Spring musical this year at Washington High School. I played George, a captive, and Admiral Moore of the British fleet. Since I get beat as Admiral the joke was Admiral No Moore. The musical went VERY well, although we were all very skeptical in the beginning. The story was about a group of lady pirates (imagine that) who capture a ship. The crew is afraid of them but we soon find our they are all talk and no action. It was a comedic musical with some romance and some really fun songs.

Little By Little

Ok, since I haven't written since the ancient days, I'm going to update little by little. Hmm.. I guess I should start at around Christmas since I haven't posted since like... October.. I went home for Christmas... It was a really nice break, and it was pretty nice outside as well. Mom and I went through some stuff of Grandma's since she moved to Maryland and she found the red clown nose. Dad found it too later. No, it was not a coordinated event. Kinda funny. I got my hair cut.. woo! Um... I don't have much else to say about christmas. I got a new computer because mine was about to blow up. It's huge though, a 17" laptop. I finally got a carrying bag for it this week after like... 4 months. Word of advice, if you get a laptop, it is impossible to get a carrying case for a 17" that is under like $80. So go for a little smaller :)

Catch up!

Sorry I haven't been doing so well with this blog thing this year. I will try to be better at it. Hm... lots of stuff has been happening, I guess I will start with the most recent. Happy Thanksgiving! For those who haven't heard, Kevin was recently accepted into BYU so it looks like he will be joining me out here next semester. He is really excited. For Thanksgiving my family back home went to visit my Grandma (who now lives in Maryland with my Aunt and Uncle) and about a half an hour after they got there she was rushed to the hospital because she got sick. They have diagnosed it with bronchitis and acute pneumonia at the very tip of her lungs. Hopefully she is ok, because her asthma isn't going to appreciate that. School is EXTREMELY busy right now. I have a 20 page advertising project due in about a week and a half or two weeks. It is a book full of advertising strategy for Burton snowboards. A team and I are basically making an entire campaign for Burton. It's a pretty cool project, but very time consuming. I also have a 10-12 page research project due coming up, and a revised paper due on Tuesday. In addition to that I have an advertising file, with about 50 or more ads due, plus finals, and mid-terms, and all the other fun stuff teachers seem to throw at you right at the same time. I like feeling busy though, I almost seem to get more done that way. I just got over another "outbreak" of the Lupus. It seems like every time I come off the medicine, the Lupus comes back. They are doing some testing to see if they can switch my meds and see if that will help it stay in remission (so to speak). Um... for Halloween this year my roommates and some of our friends were the characters from the game clue. I was Mrs. Peacock and Brent was Reverend Green. It's so funny how much people come out of their shells and do outrageous things for Halloween. Um... I also carved pumpkins this year for the first time in ages! It was a lot of fun and I was pretty excited about my final turn out, which was a castle (Not a head with hair like mom thought :)) I also got the chance to go see a very cool Hindu temple in Spanish Fork a few months ago. It was really interesting to hear their beliefs and see their temple. I guess it is the biggest of that kind in the United States. Pretty cool huh? That's all I can think of for now, I'm sure there is much more going on though.... I'll be better at keeping this thing updated so that I don't have to write a book each time. :)

Newness

I am happy to report that I am FINALLY moved and almost settled into my new apartment. I also got a new job at Deseret Book in the University Mall a little bit from my apartment and I'm finally done with my sophomore year! I guess that is supposed to mean I have two years left, but I don't know how well that will go. My new apartment is huge and it's pretty. I have some pictures of right outside of my patio door. It connects to an indoor solarium with a pool and a sand volleyball court. It is supposed to get cold again here. A storm is coming in that is supposed to drop our temperatures back into the 50s and 60s. Fun fun!! Here are the pictures...

Only three weeks left!

There are only three weeks left of this semester, including finals week. I can't believe how fast the year went. I have had tons of fun, but I don't feel like I should be a junior already. So much has happened this year, I was diagnosed with Lupus, I changed my major, I have been dating someone for about six months. It's been an amazing year. My roommates are amazing, but there is a little tension with one of them. Angela and I are going to be living together next year. We are a little farther away from campus but, that's ok because we will have our own rooms and it doesn't hurt to walk a little farther. My family was here for Kevin's spring break last week. They left early Saturday morning. It was a lot of fun and it was good to see everyone since I won't be going home for the summer. At least not as of right now. I will be looking for a job in a few weeks for the spring and summer. I don't know if I will be working full time or part time yet because I'm going to school part time as well. Here are some pictures of from when my family was here.

Spring Break!!

So we don't have spring break here at the great ole' BYU but... my family is coming to visit me for their spring break this week. They will be here like Monday or Tuesday. Crazy! We have like less than a month left of school too... that's also pretty crazy. Angela and I are living together next year, Jessica is getting married... maybe, and Kimberlee is studying abroad in Vienna for the first semester and who knows what the second semester. I screwed up my knee again this week and was on crutches for a few days but now I just have to wear a brace which is not any fun either. Oh well, hopefully it will get better soon. Anyways, everyone should check out my other "political" blog I am doing for a chance at a scholarship. It's kinda way out of my normal box but... I'm trying it out. I get points for people viewing it. It is www.progressiveU.org/blog/hrothert. You don't have to agree with me...but it would be cool if you checked it out.

Hawaiian Luau

Our ward had a Luau on Friday night. There was a limbo and hula hoop contest. Afterwards a bunch of us played capture the flag and cops and robbers. Saturday we went to the BYU vs. Utah basketball game. We won by like 25 points. It was nice, but kinda boring. It was the last home game. We are the conference champions. Today was our break the fast dinner as well as a CES fireside.

Cops, Robbers and Giant Green Frogs

This past weekend was a blast. Last night Brent and I went on a double date with Karly and Eric. We went to Wal-Mart and played the shopping cart game. For those of you who haven't been lucky enough to play this game, each team has about 15 minutes to get 7 things from anywhere in the store and put them in their cart. You then meet back at the designated spot and switch carts. You then race to see who can put away all the items in the right spot first and whoever does wins. Brent and I won the first game and then Eric and Karly won the second. We lost because they gave us this huge green frog dehumidifier and it was the only one in the whole store... so... we couldn't put it back with anything... so we never found where it actually went. Tonight we got like 15 people from the ward to come play cops and robbers with us on campus. The cops had to hide on campus and then the robbers had to try to get from one side of campus to the other without being tagged. The first time around everyone got tagged. The second only like 3 people got tagged and everyone else made it. It was a lot of fun, but kind of cold. I think we are going to do it again when it's warmer.

An update on the Semester

Well, I haven't posted since before Christmas break. Sorry about that. I've been pretty busy. This semester I'm taking Accounting, 2 computer classes, a religion class, a marriage class, and Spanish. A few of the classes are easy but all of them require a ton of homework. Yucky. I guess it's college so I shouldn't be surprised right? Not a whole lot of things have happened yet this semester. My roommates and a guys apartment went camping this weekend in Goblin Valley, which is about 3 hours south of Provo. It was absolutely gorgeous and I guess we went just in time because I looked out the window this morning and everything is covered in about 2 or 3 inches of snow and it's still snowing really hard... Yuck... maybe we can go play in it or something since we have the day off for President's Day. Oh, my friend David got engaged a few weeks ago. Brent and I video taped it for him and my friend from last year that I went to Vegas with got married on Saturday! I think it would be really hard to get married in the middle of the semester but... she did it. Here is a link to the pictures from this weekend. There are like 100 and I don't even have all of them up there so... don't feel bad if you don't want to look through them...I'll put a few up on this blog. I guess that is about it... I'm still trying to figure out what to do for Spring/Summer semesters and where to live in the fall. here is the link to the pictures... http://new.photos.yahoo.com/byuheidi19/albums
